I Am Always Watching

I sit in the corner and watch it all,
you won’t believe the things I’ve saw.

I watched you eat and watched you play.
I have even heard the things you say.

I know when you shower or brush your teeth.
Or when you’re happy beyond belief.

I attend every celebration
I am present during special occasions.

I sing along to the silly songs
and often, I dance along.

I watch as Mother plans birthday surprises. I watch as the baby grows to different sizes.

I was there when you stubbed your toe.
There are probably things you wish I didn’t know.

Lime little johnny sneaking snacks
Or the baby eating crumbs from the cracks.

The middle one picks her nose
and daddy likes an evening dose.

I am here every single day and you never even bother to say hay.

I’m not a peeping tom or a creep.
I kinda always hoped I would be something you want to keep.

What am I?
A friendly wall spider
narrated by a creative writer.

  1. This is the perfect metaphor for how exposed we all are — even when we think we’re private, there’s always something quietly watching, recording, remembering.

Except here, it’s a spider instead of the internet, Alexa, or a neighbor with too much free time.

It’s funny because it’s innocent — but it’s unsettling too.

You can laugh about Barry the Wall Spider, but deep down it reminds you: you’re never as alone, polished, or private as you think.
