Abraham

Abraham

After Noah survived the great flood and his descendants were dispersed, Abraham entered the spotlight. His story begins in Genesis twelve and continues until chapter 25. His father was Terach, a descendant of Shem, son of  Noah. His mother was named Amatlai and his wife was named Sarah There is little to none written about the first part of his life as the story picks up when he is 75. During this time God commands him to leave his home and family and travel to a land in which God will show him.

Abraham is one of the most influential and significant people in the Bible. Originally his name was Abram which means “exalted father” . Later God changed his name to Abraham Meaning “father of all nations”.
Abraham obeyed God and left his home in ur, showing great faith and obedience. As many know, this will not be the only test for Abraham. The Bible describes him as having large numbers of livestock, silver and gold. With his wealth Abraham built an eshel, which translates as either an orchard to feed wayfarers or an actual inn. He used the constant flow of travelers to his eshel to preach the gospel which spread it far and wide.
One of the most famous aspects of Abraham’s story is the promise of a son. God promised Abraham that he would be the father of many nations, yet he and his wife Sarah had no children for a long time. They waited until Abraham was 100 years old and Sarah was 90 before their son Isaac was born (Genesis 21:2).
God tested Abraham’s faith once again by asking him to sacrifice his son Isaac (Genesis 22). Abraham obeyed without hesitation, preparing to sacrifice his beloved son, but God intervened at the last moment. This story showcases Abraham’s unwavering faith and God’s provision. One of the most important events in Abraham’s life was the covenant God made with him. As a sign of this covenant, God commanded Abraham and his descendants to be circumcised (Genesis 17:10-14).
Abraham lived an exceptionally long life by today’s standards.
According to Genesis 25:7, Abraham died at the age of 175. He lived to see his son Isaac grow up and witnessed the beginnings of the promises God had made to him unfold.

These facts about Abraham show a life deeply intertwined with faith and obedience to God’s will. His story is a central part of the Bible and provides powerful lessons about trusting God, even when His plans seem difficult to understand. Abraham’s legacy continues to inspire people today, reminding us that God’s promises are sure and His timing is perfect.

Abraham spans over many chapters and while I usually attach a Shepherd’s chapel video along with these I am not sure how to do this one. I think I will post the first one in which Abraham is mentioned and provide an additional link for the album that contains the rest of Abraham’s story.

This picks up in Genesis 10:2, a chapter before Abraham, and continues to 12:9.
