Another attempt at a free verse poem.
Oh how sweet
is the sound of pitter patter feet.
When you’ve been told it would never be reality.
To be barren and without child, when one desires
is a pain like no other; it burns like a thousand fires.
A hurt deep within the soul
that only a woman can know.
This is why it doesn’t matter if the child is grown in her womb.
A woman can love it like her own regardless.
Something inside her always yearns
for that connection that no man can tame.
Sometimes it takes a tiny infant, innocent and frail,
to fill a void deeper than the deepest sea.
What a wonderful blessing adoption is and all the hearts that have found a forever home.
