Which food, when you eat it, instantly transports you to childhood? MANWICH aka Sloppy Joes! something out the warm gooey goodness that transports me right back to my childhood. My mother used to cut my sandwich into squares and I do for my children today as well. Sadly, most members of my family do no care of this delicacy so it is not often on the menu.

Mince and tatties — now that’s a proper portal back in time. The smell alone, that rich, savoury steam rising from the plate, could summon a dozen half-forgotten memories: your gran clattering pans, misted-up windows on a rainy night, and maybe even the tinny sound of the 6 o’clock news in the background. No garnish, no nonsense — just comfort, honesty, and a bit too much butter in the mash (because that’s how it’s meant to be).
It’s one of those meals that doesn’t just feed you — it grounds you. Like childhood in a bowl: warm, simple, and full of stories.

Mince and tatties! I have to admit I had to Google it as the name was unfamiliar to me. However, I love making a similar version of this, so delicious!

How timely – right now I am making homemade apple and cherry butter to make my favorite comfort food from childhood. On Sundays, my mother would make crepes, spread apple butter on them, roll them up and the platter would go in the oven to keep them warm. While she used only apples, I went to the farmer’s market and have an abundance of cherries, so I added them to the pot.
