Before the 1930s—and in some places even into the 1950s—many barbershops routinely offered hand and finger massages, especially for writers or anyone who did a great deal of handwriting, said my Grandpa.

How fascinating! I have heard of barbers doubling as dentists, but never as a hand and finger masseuse.

That is really cool. I only type now, my handwriting just gets worse and worse, but I can remember my fingers hurting from writing too long.🙂
