Skills to Die For

What skill would you like to learn?

What skills would I like to learn? I would like to learn the skill of knot tieing. I find the art to be highly fascinating and mind blowing. Knots can be used for relaying messages or saving a life and sometimes the only difference is a twist of a wrist. One day I will have to time to learn such skills. Until then, I have something to look forward to.

  1. I am an Eagle Scout who has been a dock hand, professional ski patroller, rock climber, ski area manager, and backcountry manager. Knots have been a part of my life for most of my life. When you’re ready to learn there are many great books. I actually recommend a game – The Fisherman’s Knot Tying Game. Also, Handbook of Knots and Splices by Charles E. Gibson. Learning how to read the diagrams can be challenging, but stick to it and the skills will come. Also, get two ropes of the same size, but distinct colors so you can see what each end is doing. All the best!
