Laughter

What makes you laugh?

What makes me laugh? Oh, many things make me laugh. My children, God’s humor, my husband’s silliness. One particular event made me laugh so hard my belly hurt. I have a manual salt grinder. The Celtic salt kinda clumps together and can be hard on salt grinders. For over a week now I have been meaning to buy a new one because it would seem the one I owned was broken. It looked like components were missing. Upon further investigation by my husband, he discovered someone had screwed the grinding component upside down. So my salt grinder lives to see another day 😃. I laugh the hardest at my own silly mistakes.

What a Waste

I wrote this poem for the mothers who were faced with a difficult decision and chose life.

The doctors told you I would be different.
I would never be the same.
My quality of life tainted, oh what a shame.
It’s better to just end it,
there is no one to blame.
Get rid of the burden a life like this will bring. You can always have more offspring.

But you saw a different story, you told me not to worry. You saw a different fate. One of which, I create. You took my hand and stayed by my side. You would not let the doctors be my demise. You said I am a child of God and all his glory, no one else can write my story.

Look at me now, in my current state.
My capabilities are no longer a debate. Standing atong on my own two feet. I refuse to taste defeat. Thank you for always believing in me and allowing me to grow into who I’m meant to be.

Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;
1 Corinthians 13:6 KJV
https://bible-strong.app

I Corinthians 13
1 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.

2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing.

3 And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.

4 Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,

5 Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;

6 Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;

7 Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.

8 Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.

9 For we know in part, and we prophesy in part.

10 But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.

11 When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.

12 For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.

13 And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.

Daily prompt

When you were five, what did you want to be when you grew up?

When I was five I wanted to be the people who took care of ocean animals. I did not realize then, that ocean animals do not need to be looked after. I realize now I was longing to be a marine biologist. I wanted to wake up on a boat in the middle of the ocean every single day. I wanted to spend my days with marine animals and miles away from most of the world. What big dreams for such a little girl. I am sad to say that I did not pursue that profession as more realistic endeavors captured my attention during college.

Choosing A Spouse

Choosing a spouse may be the single handedly most important decision a person will make in their lifetime. The person chosen can be the difference between success and failure. It can be the difference between living a happy life and living an utter nightmare. A spouse is meant to be a best friend and support system. They should be caring, compassionate and understanding. They are meant to be a dynamic duo that complement one another. Each one brings a unique set of skills and assets that create a complex and loving relationship.

I have seen in other cultures where parents choose a spouse for their children. While here in America that is not the culture norm, I can’t help but see the positive aspects of it. How awesome would it be to pick my daughters’ husbands and son’s wife. I could take all my useful and wize knowledge and make an informed decision on the appropriate mate. I could ensure that they live a happy and prosperous life and avoid any bad relationships. On second thought, how well would that have worked for me if my parents chose my husband? I do not believe I would be happy and satisfied with their choice for me for several different reasons.

I can’t choose my children’s partners so how do I guide them in making the best choice possible? First and foremost, I think the relationship the child sees in their parents is the first model that they learn. How mom and dad treat each other is the very first example on how to love a partner. Which is why choosing a partner is so important. Your future kids will model whatever relationship you present to them. If children see turmoil and chaos all the time odds are, they will create the same family dynamic for themselves.

Secondly is to teach and implement morals to children. Teach them they should not have sex before marriage. And how sacred their body should be for their future partners. Teach them to dress modestly and not attract unwanted attention. Show them right from wrong and not to follow the ways of the world. Teach them to be morally sound and to go through life in a Godly manner. Teach them to set boundaries and stand on them firmly. Teach to speak their mind and protect their heart. Teach them to have high standards and not to chase those below it.

Last but not least, you have to give children room to make mistakes. Their first love probably won’t be their life long spouse. Allow them to explore the world and figure out what they want in a partner. Allow them to date and have relationships but within the boundaries of what is right and wrong. But most importantly, teach them to trust in God’s plan for them and have faith that God has the perfect spouse in store. Show them to trust in God’s timing, not theirs.

I read an article once that said if you are looking for a spouse first become the spouse you want to be.  I thought that was great advice. You cannot expect a woman to be interested in a man with no job, no house or no future. Just the same as you cannot expect a man to want a future with a woman who is lazy, sleezy, and unreliable.  First make sure you have the appropriate qualities to bring to the table before you start searching for a life long partner.

A husband and wife are more than just husband and wife, they are a team. That team can either work together or against each other. Life can either be a mutual understanding or a constant struggle. Choosing someone to stand by your side forever can be a huge decision and one that should never be taken lightly. The decision will not only affect this generation but generations to come. What will your future son and daughter in law be like?

Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

2 Corinthians 10:5 KJV
https://bible-strong.app

II Corinthians 10

1 Now I Paul myself beseech you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ, who in presence am base among you, but being absent am bold toward you:

2 But I beseech you, that I may not be bold when I am present with that confidence, wherewith I think to be bold against some, which think of us as if we walked according to the flesh.

3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:

4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)

5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

6 And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.

7 Do ye look on things after the outward appearance? If any man trust to himself that he is Christ’s, let him of himself think this again, that, as he is Christ’s, even so are we Christ’s.

8 For though I should boast somewhat more of our authority, which the Lord hath given us for edification, and not for your destruction, I should not be ashamed:

9 That I may not seem as if I would terrify you by letters.

10 For his letters, say they, are weighty and powerful; but his bodily presence is weak, and his speech contemptible.

11 Let such an one think this, that, such as we are in word by letters when we are absent, such will we be also in deed when we are present.

12 For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.

13 But we will not boast of things without our measure, but according to the measure of the rule which God hath distributed to us, a measure to reach even unto you.

14 For we stretch not ourselves beyond our measure, as though we reached not unto you: for we are come as far as to you also in preaching the gospel of Christ:

15 Not boasting of things without our measure, that is, of other men’s labours; but having hope, when your faith is increased, that we shall be enlarged by you according to our rule abundantly,

16 To preach the gospel in the regions beyond you, and not to boast in another man’s line of things made ready to our hand.

17 But he that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.

18 For not he that commendeth himself is approved, but whom the Lord commendeth.

Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer. Psalms 19:14 KJV
https://bible-strong.app

Psalms 19
To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David.

1 The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.

2 Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge.

3 There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard.

4 Their line is gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them hath he set a tabernacle for the sun,

5 Which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, and rejoiceth as a strong man to run a race.

6 His going forth is from the end of the heaven, and his circuit unto the ends of it: and there is nothing hid from the heat thereof.

7 The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple.

8 The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes.

9 The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether.

10 More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.

11 Moreover by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward.

12 Who can understand his errors? cleanse thou me from secret faults.

13 Keep back thy servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me: then shall I be upright, and I shall be innocent from the great transgression.

14 Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.

A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. Ezekiel 36:26 KJV
https://bible-strong.app

Ezekiel 36<<>>
Ezekiel 36
1 Also, thou son of man, prophesy unto the mountains of Israel, and say, Ye mountains of Israel, hear the word of the LORD:

2 Thus saith the Lord GOD; Because the enemy hath said against you, Aha, even the ancient high places are ours in possession:

3 Therefore prophesy and say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Because they have made you desolate, and swallowed you up on every side, that ye might be a possession unto the residue of the heathen, and ye are taken up in the lips of talkers, and are an infamy of the people:

4 Therefore, ye mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Lord GOD; Thus saith the Lord GOD to the mountains, and to the hills, to the rivers, and to the valleys, to the desolate wastes, and to the cities that are forsaken, which became a prey and derision to the residue of the heathen that are round about;

5 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Surely in the fire of my jealousy have I spoken against the residue of the heathen, and against all Idumea, which have appointed my land into their possession with the joy of all their heart, with despiteful minds, to cast it out for a prey.

6 Prophesy therefore concerning the land of Israel, and say unto the mountains, and to the hills, to the rivers, and to the valleys, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I have spoken in my jealousy and in my fury, because ye have borne the shame of the heathen:

7 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; I have lifted up mine hand, Surely the heathen that are about you, they shall bear their shame.

8 But ye, O mountains of Israel, ye shall shoot forth your branches, and yield your fruit to my people of Israel; for they are at hand to come.

9 For, behold, I am for you, and I will turn unto you, and ye shall be tilled and sown:

10 And I will multiply men upon you, all the house of Israel, even all of it: and the cities shall be inhabited, and the wastes shall be builded:

11 And I will multiply upon you man and beast; and they shall increase and bring fruit: and I will settle you after your old estates, and will do better unto you than at your beginnings: and ye shall know that I am the LORD.

12 Yea, I will cause men to walk upon you, even my people Israel; and they shall possess thee, and thou shalt be their inheritance, and thou shalt no more henceforth bereave them of men.

13 Thus saith the Lord GOD; Because they say unto you, Thou land devourest up men, and hast bereaved thy nations;

14 Therefore thou shalt devour men no more, neither bereave thy nations any more, saith the Lord GOD.

15 Neither will I cause men to hear in thee the shame of the heathen any more, neither shalt thou bear the reproach of the people any more, neither shalt thou cause thy nations to fall any more, saith the Lord GOD.

16 Moreover the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

17 Son of man, when the house of Israel dwelt in their own land, they defiled it by their own way and by their doings: their way was before me as the uncleanness of a removed woman.

18 Wherefore I poured my fury upon them for the blood that they had shed upon the land, and for their idols wherewith they had polluted it:

19 And I scattered them among the heathen, and they were dispersed through the countries: according to their way and according to their doings I judged them.

20 And when they entered unto the heathen, whither they went, they profaned my holy name, when they said to them, These are the people of the LORD, and are gone forth out of his land.

21 But I had pity for mine holy name, which the house of Israel had profaned among the heathen, whither they went.

22 Therefore say unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord GOD; I do not this for your sakes, O house of Israel, but for mine holy name’s sake, which ye have profaned among the heathen, whither ye went.

23 And I will sanctify my great name, which was profaned among the heathen, which ye have profaned in the midst of them; and the heathen shall know that I am the LORD, saith the Lord GOD, when I shall be sanctified in you before their eyes.

24 For I will take you from among the heathen, and gather you out of all countries, and will bring you into your own land.

25 Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you.

26 A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.

27 And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.

28 And ye shall dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers; and ye shall be my people, and I will be your God.

29 I will also save you from all your uncleannesses: and I will call for the corn, and will increase it, and lay no famine upon you.

30 And I will multiply the fruit of the tree, and the increase of the field, that ye shall receive no more reproach of famine among the heathen.

31 Then shall ye remember your own evil ways, and your doings that were not good, and shall lothe yourselves in your own sight for your iniquities and for your abominations.

32 Not for your sakes do I this, saith the Lord GOD, be it known unto you: be ashamed and confounded for your own ways, O house of Israel.

33 Thus saith the Lord GOD; In the day that I shall have cleansed you from all your iniquities I will also cause you to dwell in the cities, and the wastes shall be builded.

34 And the desolate land shall be tilled, whereas it lay desolate in the sight of all that passed by.

35 And they shall say, This land that was desolate is become like the garden of Eden; and the waste and desolate and ruined cities are become fenced, and are inhabited.

36 Then the heathen that are left round about you shall know that I the LORD build the ruined places, and plant that that was desolate: I the LORD have spoken it, and I will do it.

37 Thus saith the Lord GOD; I will yet for this be enquired of by the house of Israel, to do it for them; I will increase them with men like a flock.

38 As the holy flock, as the flock of Jerusalem in her solemn feasts; so shall the waste cities be filled with flocks of men: and they shall know that I am the LORD.

Some Call It

Darkness surrounds me. I’m in over my head.
The voices remind me I have made my bed.
My demons devour me in a never ending sea.
Maybe it’s all make believe.

My hopes, My dreams I let slip away.
My body is slowly in a state of decay.
I pray that I quit, someday I may,
until then, this deadly game I play.

Some call it  addiction.
Some Call it a disease.

Not much can bring a grown man to his knees.
Take away his kids, life and pride.
All while he’s searching for the next high.

Everything’s different, nothing is the same.
I hope the devil never calls you by name
and offers up a taste of his flame.
Most don’t make it out, caught in the snare of drugs and despair.

Some call it addiction.
Some call it a disease.

So quick to judge and be displeased. Asking how this could be.
Mothers with babies addicted to crack. Innocent lives forced on a struggling track.
Children without parents by their side.
Ripped from their homes haunted by their cries.

Some call it addiction.
Some call it a disease.

I say it’s exactly what the devil needs
To take your mind and plant a seed.
One taste is all you need,
To give him the recipe to success.

Some call it addiction.
Some call it a disease.
