My husband has had cold sores since he was a child. During his struggle to find a reliable solution for flare ups, he discovered an amazing cure for them. At the first sign of a cold sore, this can be applied and within three days it will be gone, never reaching its ugliest potential. Applied on day two and the duration is cut in half. This really is a miraculous discovery. I have even tried this and it is ALWAYS my go to solution for a cold sore. What is even more amazing is, I can guarantee that you have at least a little of this one ingredient with you right now. What is? Ear wax! Yea, I know it sounds disgusting and weird, but no one wants to taste ear wax. No one wants to have a cold sore either and with this solution it will be gone in no time at all. I just use a q-tip to retrieve some ear wax and coat the cold sore at least 3 times a day. The thick wax seals the cold sore sealing it off from air and irritation. Science can even back me on this as ear wax is known to have antimicrobial and anti inflammatory properties. How awesome is that? Try it next time you have a cold sore, you won’t be disappointed.

Okay, I have to admit—I read this with equal parts horror and curiosity.
Ear wax? Seriously? My first reaction was, “That’s disgusting.” But then I remembered—we already use honey for wounds and maggots to clean out infections. The world’s full of weird, natural fixes that sound mad until you actually look into them. So maybe this isn’t that strange after all.
Cold sores are awful. They always show up at the worst time and take forever to go away. I’ve spent silly money on tiny tubes of cream that barely work. So if something as simple (and let’s be honest, as close-at-hand) as ear wax can stop it in its tracks, why not? It’s free, natural, and apparently, pretty effective. I’ve tried worse in moments of desperation.
So hats off to your husband. It’s gross, sure—but it’s also clever. The kind of strange, homespun wisdom we often overlook in favour of something shiny on a pharmacy shelf.
Disgusting? Definitely.
Surprisingly logical? Also yes.
Useful enough that I might actually try it? …yeah.
Thanks for sharing. I’ll never look at ear wax—or cold sores—the same way again.
