A Moment

Listening Ears

It only takes a moment to listen, a moment to care.
A moment to hear what they have to share.

What may seem miniscule to you
May seem as big as the ocean blue from.
a different view.

It’s amazing the difference it can make to feel heard.
When one is drowning in their own words.

God gave us an awesome power we abuse,
Or choose to never use.

The super power of a listening ear,
And how it can bring cheer.

To feel safe and seen,
Could ultimately mean,
The difference between,

Feeling loved and worthy,
Or sinking below the sea
Never to be seen.

So many times we are busy with our own lives,
We forget those closest by need our time.

The time to talk and listen,
And catch up on all you’ve been missing.

Cause one day when you need a listening ear,
No one may be near to hear,
Or care about what you have to share.

Mommies and daddies grow old, babies have babies of their own.
The cycle continues with what they’ve been shown.

As a mother I always have time for one more story.
Even if I am in a hurry.

Because when my hair is grey and eye dim
I know my children will be there in the end.

For I always have for them a listening ear.
I will never be too busy to hear.

Today’s  stories are about sparkly things and chasing toads.
Tomorrow’s will be about life changing cross roads.

Listen today before it’s too late,
Make no mistake.

If you don’t listen while they are young
When it’s important you won’t be the place you run.
